This is the last in our series on how to transition to new ways of eating. Have you heard this saying before, “Where attention goes, energy flows”? Basically, this is saying when we put attention on appreciating the things we are doing, we give more energy to the positive steps we are taking. This generates more positive steps!

If we are constantly judging ourselves, talking down, or even berating ourselves for the things we aren’t doing, it just further breaks us down. Being hard on ourselves triggers a stress response. When we are in that state, is it not good for our health.

Appreciating ourselves actually triggers the parasympathetic nervous system, which is the relaxation response. This is great for our health! So share your triumphs with others so they can cheer you on as well! You can also set up a reward system by doing something fun for yourself or treating yourself to a rewarding activity. Either way, we need to be our own cheerleader! Speak kindly to yourself and be patient with change.
